Packt Publishing celebrates their 2000th title with an exclusive offer - We've got IT covered!

Known for their extensive range of pragmatic IT ebooks, Packt Publishing are celebrating their 2000th book title `Learning Dart’– they want their customers to celebrate too.

To mark this milestone Packt Publishing will launch a ‘Buy One Get One Free’ offer across all eBooks on March 18th – for a limited period only.

Packt is one of the most prolific and fast-growing tech book publishers in the world. Originally focused on open source software, Packt contributes back into the community paying a royalty on relevant books directly to open source projects. These projects have received over $400,000 as part of Packt’s Open Source Royalty Scheme to date.

Their books focus on practicality, recognising that readers are ultimately concerned with getting the job done. Packt’s digitally-focused business model allows them to quickly publish up-to-date books in very specific areas across a range of key categories – web development, game development, big data, application development, and more. Their commitment to providing a comprehensive range of titles has seen Packt publish 1054% more titles in 2013 than in 2006.

Here are some of the best titles across Packt's main categories - but Buy One, Get One Free will apply across all 2000 titles:

Epic update

So if you couldn't tell from the above image, I am the Featured Author for the week on 3DOcean! This is a great honor and shows that the Envato team must like what I've been making for them.

Also I just released a new asset pack onto the network, a Hand painted low poly flag set, with this set you have a load of pre-made flag assets which can be put straight into your game engine, with 3 different themes and 1 blank theme that you can customise, but even better it include a tool kit to create your own types of flags, see the image! and even better Buy one!

Mastering UDK Game Development Book Review

I was recently given the opportunity to do a review for 'Mastering UDK Game Development' by John P Doran, from Packt Publishing. So please read below to see my thoughts.

This is a great book for those who have already a basic grasp on the fundamentals of UDK, but want to get a bite of the more technical aspects of the engine. There are a broad

Within the first few chapters you go from creating a simple 2D side scrolling game to a 3D rail shooter; this may sound a fast pace but it is actually delivered in a nice conversational way that is easy to absorb, more like being instructed one on one, than a list of tasks your simple repeating.

The layout of each project works well and I especially liked the ‘Why it’s awesome’ section that explains in simple terms why this project that the your about to complete will be so useful. The 'Additional tasks' at the end of each project were also another great addition. These tasks are well aimed as they are obtainable but still add a level of experimentation and further research that help the reader to learn other skills
and techniques (but also thankfully they have also included a working project file that includes these additional tasks working for you if you get stuck.)

Wip Dump

I've worked a bit sporadically recently, with lots of projects on the go, so ive decided to do a dump of some of those projects. I've also started to try to get my vector game up, here are a few things I've made for work and personal stuff too.

Also got a sneak peek at a low poly market place pack that I'm making, that will be on 3D Ocean soon, also a larger project where I'm planning to make a fully rigged toon drift car but in the 30-40's gangster style - sounds confused but it will work. Cheers for reading!
